Music festival celebrates musicians from all over the world

Select musicians who began a stringent audition process back in November are almost finished with the first week of a four week music festival that includes musicians from around the world from as far away a Shenghai, China and Vancouver, Canada and a close by as right from our own Metro Nashville Public Schools, and the greater Mid-state area. These musicians are attending a truly unique international music festival just 2 hours south in Sewanee, Tennessee.

The Sewanee Summer Music Festival is a 45 plus year old music festival, one of the oldest of its kind, and it is a road trip that many should considering making one evening for a truly remarkable meal and then a chamber performance or travel down on a Sunday to hear spectacular symphonic works performed and conducted by acclaimed conductors such as Larry Livingston, Mei-Ann Chen, Raphael Jimenez
and Alastrair Willis.

Many patrons who attend the concerts of this festival eat at one of the superb restaurants on Monteagle such as and then take in a classical music concert played by some of the finest musicians in the United States, and the world. It is a little secret to some, however, the weekly chamber performances at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly are set in such a unique and extraordinarily sound acoustic setting with nature visible all around, it is hard to keep such a performing hall a secret.

 

Thursday night was the first of several extraordinary chamber performances at the Monteagle Sunday School Assembly. These performances follow a evening service.

 

Musicians from the Sewanee Summer Music Festival perform at MSSA through the festival and the generosity of the Assembly is always a delight.

 

Several Metro Nashville Public Schools musicians and Tennessee students performed last night. Jeorgia Lamb, a graduate from Hillwood High School who will be attending UT at Martin in the fall played in several of the chamber groups, including the one that was not only appropriate to the setting, but left not an eye dry - the Horn Choir's "I Rest in the Lord" an excerpt from Elijah.
